[S5E20] The One With The Ride Along

Phoebe talks about a ride-along that she has recently gone on with her cop boyfriend, Gary, in Central Perk, and Ross, Chandler and Joey get very excited about it. Gary offers to take them out on a ride-along, so they head out in the evening. Joey buys himself "the best sandwich in the world" but Gary tells him that he cannot eat it in his car. Joey continues to talk about the sandwich, and the other three men begin to get irritated. After Ross accidentally turns on the beacon ray, he is not allowed to sit in the front seat anymore, as they are undercover. During the ride, a car backfire scares them all, leading to Joey diving over Ross in an attempt save him, which causes problems between Chandler and Joey because Joey apparently wanted to save Ross instead of Chandler. However, it turns out that Joey had no intention of saving Ross, but wanted to save his sandwich. In order to prove how much Chandler means to him, he lets him have a bite of the sandwich.

"The One with the Ride-Along" is the twentieth episode of Friends' fifth season. It first aired on NBC in the United States on April 29, 1999. In the episode, Ross, Joey, and Chandler go on a ride-along with Gary, Phoebe's new boyfriend.

Ross' ex-wife Emily is getting married again, so the group does its best to distract him. Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) returns from a ride-along with her cop boyfriend, Gary (Michael Rapaport), which prompts the guys to follow suit and share the experience. Joey buys a delicious sandwich but is not allowed to eat it in Gary's car, so he keeps talking about it, much to the annoyance of Ross and Chandler. Ross accidentally turns on the beacon, prompting Gary to move him from the front seat. During the ride, a car backfire scares them all, leading to Joey diving over Ross in an attempt to save him. This causes problems between Chandler and Joey because Joey apparently wanted to save Ross instead of Chandler, his best friend. However, it turns out that Joey was not trying to save Ross, but only his sandwich. To show Chandler how much he values their friendship, he allows him to have one bite of the sandwich.

As Ross, Joey and Chandler go on a ride-along with Gary, Phoebe's cop boyfriend, a potentially dangerous situation makes Chandler think Joey prefers Ross over him. Meanwhile, when Rachel goes to Ross's apartment for margarita ingredients she overhears an emotional call from Emily, who is having second thoughts about her recent engagement.

In Season 5, episode 20 of Friends, Ross, Chandler and Joey go on a ride-along with Phoebe's cop boyfriend, Gary. After a car backfires in their vicinity, the gang confuses the sound for a gunshot, and Ross ends the night claiming he's had a near-death experience. When Rachel finds out the truth, she chastises him. "Ross!" she exclaims. "That was not a near-death experience! That was barely an experience!"

At its core, this smaller version of the already established New York City Friends Experience is a collection of selfie opportunities interspersed with a few replica items. Think Joey's dog statue (behind a rope so visitors don't ride it) and Monica's fez-wearing Thanksgiving turkey (in a display cube lest anyone put it on their heads). The only props here that appeared in the actual show are the soap powder box from "The One With the East German Laundry Detergent" and a box of Girl Scout cookies Ross sold in "The One Where Rachel Quits." (Could I be any more underwhelmed?)

On the train ride to the Pie family's rock farm, Applejack and Pinkie Pie express excitement over their families spending Hearth's Warming Eve together. Applejack is especially excited to share her family's traditions with Pinkie's, including a traditional evening dinner, raising the Equestrian flag, hanging Hearth's Warming dolls over the fireplace, and opening presents the next morning. Pinkie Pie says that her family shares these traditions as well. 041b061a72
